Meet The Vets...

Douglas Paterson Mr Douglas Paterson BVM&S MRCVS

I qualified from Edinburgh university vet school and moved to Blackpool, where I worked as a dedicated small animal vet for 6 years. I have developed a special interest in orthopaedic surgery, cardiology and in exotic animal medicine. I regularly see tortoises, snakes, lizards and cage birds. I strongly believe that vets should be personally available 24 hours per day to see their own clients, and have carried this ethos through my professional life. I have 2 cats (a brother and sister duo) who keep me busy when I’m not at the surgery. In my spare time I go sailing on the Clyde and Clyde coast. I look forward to making a home in Denny, which is where my father was raised, and grandparents live.

Glenn Hodgson Mr Glenn Hodgson BVM&S MRCVS

Having spent my first year as a vet in Melton Mowbray working with large and small animals, I moved back to Scotland to a primarily companion animal practice based in Forfar and Arbroath. The years spent as an assistant allowed me to develop my abilities in General Medicine and Surgery to a high level. The rural setting provided a varied caseload, and allowed me to focus on some more specific areas of interest, such as orthopaedics and companion animal reproduction.

I have settled in Dunipace with my wife Dawn and black lab Cassie. We are really enjoying our new home; Dawn is looking into the equestrian scene I am playing badminton whenever time allows. Currently we have very little time courtesy of our new black lab puppy Odie! He is currently terrorising Cassie (and the house) and we spend most evenings training him/tidying in his wake!

After leaving school (many years ago!) I started work as a student veterinary nurse and obtained my V.N. qualification in September 2000. Since then I have mainly worked with small animals but after moving to Devon from London in 2003 I began a job working at an RSPCA Wildlife Hospital. My many duties there included assisting the Veterinary Surgeon in treating all varieties of British wildlife from fledgling Black Birds to juvenile Grey seals, hand rearing orphaned baby Hedgehogs and the rehabilitation of over a 1000 Sea Birds after an oil tanker ran aground on Devon’s south coast.

I moved to Scotland in 2007 and live with my partner our 6 dogs, 2 cats, bearded dragon and 2 guinea pigs in a small hamlet called Luggiebank.

When I am not busy at work my time is spent looking after all our pets, walking the dogs, socializing and whenever possible having a relaxing weekend at our caravan in Aberfoyle. I am very excited to be working at Apex Vets and look forward to welcoming our new clients and their much loved pets.

Nicola Bee Mrs Nicola Bee

Born in Edinburgh, I moved to Knoydart with my family when I was 9 years old. I had a childhood which was always full of animals from having my own pony, to keeping hens, ducks, geese, cats, dogs and fish.

When I was 21 I moved to Fife and completed an HNC in Hotel and Catering Institutional Operations at Fife College, the successful completion of which led to a variety of hotel jobs including office administration. After meeting my husband in 2001, I moved to Dumbarton and began working as a secretary in a local Solicitors.

I am very excited and thrilled to be working for Apex Vets. I am looking forward to meeting a wide and varied range of animals and also meeting their owners. I live in Tullibody with my husband, our Golden Labrador Millie, our cats Kipling and Misty, three guinea pigs and our tropical and pond fish. In my spare time I enjoy horse riding, socialising and walking Millie.

Working with animals has always been my dream, and I would never have settled for anything less! After achieving my HND in Animal Care I threw myself into the job hunt. I was starting to feel disheartened when I saw this position advertised online. I was so happy when I received the job as it is pivotal in the protection of animals - which I support strongly. I love the environment and seeing all the different animals that come through the door - as well as chatting with all the clients!

In my spare time I enjoy finding good places to walk the dog with my partner Paul. So please feel free to mention any places you find particularly good. I also love doting on my cat Oscar and my budgie Lucky. Reading and writing is another passion of mine, and something I will do whenever I get the chance.
