Senior Administrator DipNCS (VCC), RVCCA, Bereavement Councillor, HNC in Hospitality, Comms 1, 2, 3 & 4 and Registered Veterinary ReceptionistI was very fortunate as a child to have been brought up in Inverie, By Knoydart where I had an abundance of animals from hens, geese, ducks, a slow worm, cats and dogs. I helped out with lambing as a child and was always in rock pools, fascinated with hairy caterpillars and butterflies, not to mention frogs and newts. My dream was to get my own pony. I picked winkles on the beach to get money to be able to buy him. The rock pools were freezing cold, but I was determined. Finally, after a lot of sacks of winkles later I managed to buy him. His name was Whisky.
When I lived in Fife, I worked for the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh and was trained in excellent customer service. From there I met my husband Jon and we moved to Dumbarton. I worked as a Legal Secretary for quite a few years, we left Dumbarton in 2007 and moved over to Clackmannanshire to be nearer my family and I was lucky enough to apply for the receptionist’s job at the time at Apex Vets and got it. I was so happy as this allowed me to fulfil my life-long dream of working with animals. I was promoted to Senior Administrator in 2014 and some of my job involves supervising the Reception staff, making sure the practice runs smoothly, dealing with all Insurance enquiries and forms and I do lots of admin. Which I love!! I still make sure I am on reception in the mornings as I love to see our clients and their pets. Getting to cuddle puppies is a bonus.
I have loved animals from a very young age and knew one day that I would want a job working with them.
I love working for Apex Vets meeting a varied range of animals, meeting their owners and working in an Administration Role. I am a strong believer in excellent customer service and enjoy being able to provide this to all of our clients at the Practice. I am also a Bereavement Councillor which enables me to help clients deal with the loss of their pet and having been in their position I know how the client feels.
I have a Labrador Millie, Miniature Dachshund Maddison, long haired Dachshund Badger, our 3 cats Kipling, Coco and Ti Amo, budgies Robson & Wallace and an African Grey Parrot called Zippy, 16 Chickens and pond fish.
In my spare time I enjoy shopping, eating out, spending time with all of my animals, cooking, visiting different hotels and gardening.
Heather
Senior ReceptionistI am a huge animal lover and have always had pets since I was very young. I moved up to Scotland from Cheshire around 12 years ago but still regularly travel back to visit family. I am now living in Denny with my fiancé Uwe, our children Keira and Sebastian, our dog Maus, 4 chickens (Mrs Chick Norris, Elvira, Road Runner and Pumpkin) and my horse Blue.
I worked in my last job in customer service for over ten years but I always knew that I wanted to work in the animal industry and when I was offered a position here at Apex I was over the moon, it has definitely been a change for the better, I love getting to know all our clients and their pets.
Lorraine
Senior ReceptionistI live with my husband Paul and our two fabulous fur babies, Harley and Nancy who we both absolutely adore. Both are rescue dogs, Harley from Dogs Trust and Nancy from Association on Route in France as we are true believers in giving rescue dogs their forever homes.
I have been working at Apex Vets since 2016 which I find very interesting and love being part of the “Apex Family”.
Before joining the Apex Team, I worked in the housing industry for 28 years and latterly caring for elderly dementia patients which I found extremely rewarding.
In my spare time I enjoy crafting, spending time at the beach, walking our dogs, eating out, going on holiday and enjoy catching up with friends when time allows.
Corrie
Receptionist HND Animal CareWhen I was young it was never really a question of what I would do when I grew up, I always knew it would involve looking after animals. Going through High School I didn’t really worry about subjects that I should take- I wanted to work with animals, and that’s all I cared about! In my fourth year I completed work experience on a dairy farm which I absolutely loved. However, I struggled with some aspects of farm life, especially as a young teenager. I then started work at a local cattery, which I loved, having always been a cat lover!
I started my HND in Animal Care at Oatridge College in September 2009. After achieving my HND in 2011 I soon after began working at Apex Vets as a Veterinary Receptionist. I love getting to know all the patients that come into the practice and trying to help make their visits as positive as possible. I also have an interest in animal nutrition and behaviour.
I live in Dunipace with my husband Paul, our Cockatiel Khaos (she really is!) and our Whippets Stryder & Piper. When we aren’t working you will find us hiking a mountain or running up a hill!
Storm
Receptionist HNC applied artI have always loved animals and especially love to photograph and draw them. After encouragement from my family and friends, following a portrait I created for my boyfriend’s family after they sadly lost their staffie, Buster. I created a small art business that I operate in my spare time, where I specialise in pet portraits drawn in pencil. I hope to have the chance to maybe draw your beloved pets! I am so happy to now be part of the Apex family and merge my interests with my job and be part of a fantastic close team.
My family dog is a cheeky husky called Timber who loves everyone, and my boyfriend’s family have a gorgeous Bavarian mountain hound, Ruby. When they meet, Ruby is certainly the boss and Timber knows it! I love all kinds of animals and really enjoy seeing all the animals that come in to the practice and getting to know all the clients. I bet I share my name with a few furry clients too!
I enjoy my adventures around the Highlands in our renovated camper van.
Rhiann
ReceptionistMy name is Rhiann and I live in Stenhousemuir with my cat called Pika, my 2 turtles Ronda & Oink and my 5 fish tanks. I love spending time at home with various animals, reading, gardening and enjoying the sun at any given opportunity – which is not very often sadly – I was born in the wrong country! I absolutely love crime programmes and find psychology fascinating. When I left school, I was a typical teenager and had enough of classrooms, so I went straight into work, over the years I worked in childcare, caring for people with disabilities to live independently and customer service roles.
I have always been around, and love animals so was delighted when I was lucky enough to get the role at Apex. I love working face to face with people so as cliché as it sounds it was the ideal combo for me to be able to work with both every day and I am absolutely loving it. To be able to give peoples pets the experience and service I know I want when visiting with my pet is very rewarding. I am really interested in canine behaviour so hopefully this is something I can learn about more at the practice.
Victoria
ReceptionistHi I’m Victoria! I am originally from Carnoustie and have recently moved to the local area with my partner Ross when we bought our first house in 2020. For the past few years before this I lived in the Glasgow area whilst I was studying for my HND in Graphic Design at the City of Glasgow College.
I have been surrounded by animals my whole life and have volunteered at stables, and a rescue centre which I loved. We always had pets growing up, at one point we had 6 cats as my parents adopted and also rescued a few strays. My family pets now are two wonderful yellow labs, Mylo and Fizz who are 12 and our cat called Penelope who is 5. You would never know the dogs are 12 they are bundles of energy; little Fizz is blind but that has never affected her enthusiasm they are just the best natured dogs. I adore being out in nature, my family and I spend every summer in Arran, hillwalking, running and taking the dogs on adventures! I am also really interested in photography, specifically nature photography and I love to do this in my spare time.
During lockdown I got to spend even more time in nature than usual and I have really loved birdwatching and trying to identify as many species as I can and listening out for their different calls. Although I loved my course and I love being creative in my spare time, I knew that I really wanted to work in an environment with animals and so I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the team at Apex Vets!
Erin
ReceptionistHaving been around animals my whole life, getting the job at Apex was the dream for me.
My favourite is cats, Ragdolls in particular as we have 7 of our own at home which we breed and we are members of the Ragdoll Cat Club. I love seeing unwell pets become more and more well with each visit and giving lots of cuddles and treats! I’ve done a few cat behaviour and care courses and I am really interested in neonatal care of kittens as this is something I’ve been thrown into head first having hand reared a few of our litters and found it a really enjoyable experience.
When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my family and friends, going on holiday and days away to make memories with those I love.
My favourite thing is seeing all our waggy tails, purry friends and experiencing all the weird and wonderful pets that come through the doors!
Kirsty
ReceptionistI joined the Apex Team in September 2021 after working full time in the beauty industry. I have always been a huge animal lover, back in 2016 I got my qualification in HND Animal Care and spent time volunteering at kennels and groomers which I loved. I live at home with Kama, my 12-year-old Golden Labrador who is the sweetest girl!
I have lots of other hobbies and love keeping busy on the weekends. I love travelling and exploring new cities. Funnily enough my favourite place turns out to be the closest to home in the Isle of Skye. However, a few years back I went inter-railing and spent a few weeks traveling Europe with two of my best friends and we had the time of our lives. I have a huge bucket list which I plan to work my way through at any chance I get.
During lockdown I found my love for reading again and I’m always passing on book recommendations to anyone who will listen. I have a blog which I stared during lockdown where I chat about what I’m reading. In 2021 my latest hobby is collecting records, thanks to my boyfriend who loves music. We really enjoy heading into the city and having a nosey in record shops.
I’m super excited about being part of the Apex Team and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
