Now firmly in the middle of my career, I still thoroughly enjoy being a vet, including the teaching roles it now involves. The practice has really moved on in the last few years, in no small part with the help of the team. Developing Apex into a practice with 24/7 inpatient care, in the face of decreasing out of hours provision across the profession, is something we are very proud of.

Outside work between my family, pets and badminton. There is never a dull moment!

Glenn and I started Apex Vets back in 2010 and I have loved being involved as we grow into our early vision. Since we started we have been able to purchase our building giving us more security, and then more recently extend the practice to offer more space and facilities for our clients and patients. We constantly look forward and together with our excellent team we enjoy fnding ways to make the practice better so we can do better for our patients. I enjoy co-organising our annual open day and fun day which goes from strength to strength and is thoroughly enjoyed by the community in Denny. In the practice I do cardiology work including ECG and ultrasound, and occasional orthopaedic surgery. I enjoy my time consulting and getting to know my regular patients and clients. At home my wife and I have two sons, two dogs, a cat and 4 chickens and enjoy weekends away in our caravan, and taking the kids abroad when time allows

Growing up in a wee cottage in the woods back in rural Moray, I was surrounded by animals from an early age. I was always fascinated by the number and variety of exciting creatures we share this planet with and as a child loved to learn more about them. Nurtured by parents who were just as engaged and enthralled by the natural world as I was, my childhood was filled with pets and animals of all sorts. I was mother-hen to a gaggle of baby goslings, proud owner and breeder of many types of fancy show chickens, and trainer to my own little Jack Russell (Judy) at the age of 10.

This fascination with nature and animals (and a keen interest in science) lead me towards Veterinary Medicine. Whilst at University in Glasgow my focus switched from feathers to scales and slime, as although there was no space for chickens, I could turn my bedroom into a veritable rainforest full of frogs, salamanders, lizards, scorpions, mantids, tarantulas and snakes!

After qualifying in 2010, I spent my first few years as a vet working in mixed practice in Aberdour: close to my childhood home of Elgin in the rural North East of Scotland. After four years of treating everything from cats to cows, I moved to central Scotland to focus on my smaller patients.

Outwith work my hobbies also revolve around my love of nature and this beautiful country we live in be it walking or driving through it or exploring and taking photographs.

I enjoy most aspects of medicine and surgery, not only with dogs, cats and small furries (such as rabbits, guinea pigs and rats) but also reptile patients and of course birds, the creatures who kickstarted the passion all those years ago back north. Having a good working relationship with clients as well as their pets is very important to me: I feel like the best results come when the pet owner and I share trust and open communication in order to be an effective team in helping their pet. That’s why I joined Apex; I wanted to be where your pet is part of our family.

RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery

I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2008. I gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2023, after attaining the General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2022. I was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in 2021, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies in 2020. In 2023 I achieved RCVS Advanced Practitioner status in Small Animal Surgery.

Prior to joining Apex, I worked in a number of Small Animal Veterinary Hospitals in West Yorkshire. During that time, I developed a love of all things surgical working closely with European and RCVS Recognised Specialists in Small Animal Surgery. I also worked alongside experienced, referral vets in various disciplines including internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology, and dermatology and allowed me to gain vast experience in all areas of veterinary medicine and develop a passion for providing the highest level of care.

Having previously represented Scotland at International level as a gymnast, I am currently one of 3 women in the UK and around 10 women worldwide to hold the International (Brevet) Judge qualification for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. I have judged for Team GB, and Team Scotland including at the Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014, Gold Coast 2018, and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and was selected by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to judge at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

At home I have two cheeky cats, Rogue and Logan.

Growing up locally I started my journey at Apex Vets during high school volunteering and seeing practice as I wanted to become a vet. I completed a course in Animal Care at college before getting accepted into Edinburgh Vet School in 2013. Lots of studying and many placements later I qualified as a vet in 2018. I’ve since worked in the PDSA and a private small animal practice before returning to the Apex family in October 2020.

I have a particular interest in rabbit medicine and welfare, but I love getting to know all clients and their pets during consultations.

At home I’m always on my toes running around after my toddler and 4 year old Labrador, Pippin. Rare hours of ‘time off’ are generally spent having a well-deserved cup of tea!

I’d always been interested in working with animals from a young age but hadn’t thought about being a vet until the end of my time at high school, so I went out to get as much experience as possible, I volunteered at Zoo’s, farms, livery yards and the local vets around my hometown of Livingston. I even travelled to Sri Lanka to work with an elephant charity.

I graduated from Glasgow Vet School and worked at 2 practices in central Scotland developing my skills before moving to Apex in November 2021. At Apex I hope to develop my skills further and have a keen interest in exotic medicine and surgery but enjoy seeing the fluffier patients as well

In my free time I spend it with my girlfriend and our ever-growing menagerie of animals. We have two Border terriers, Bree and Twigg, two horses Stella and Lady, my tortoise, Juan and 2 guinea pigs, Waffles and Crumpet.

I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a vet and after a lot of hard work graduated from Edinburgh University in 2018. I began my veterinary career in mixed practice seeing small, farm and equine cases. Although I enjoyed the variability, I found myself wanting to spend more time on small animal side of practice. In 2022 I joined Apex vets and do not miss the farm call outs in the rain!

I enjoy all aspects of general practice and do have a soft spot for small mammals, especially guinea pigs and hamsters. At home I currently have a herd of 8 Guinea pigs, 1 hamster, a few tropical fish and 1 mischievous Chihuahua cross, Eevee. Between the menagerie and my 2 stepchildren I’m kept pretty busy on my days off.

I grew up in London, we have always had pet cats at home and I was a keen horse rider too. Growing up around animals is what made me want to become a vet.  In 2022 I graduated from Edinburgh University and have been at Apex Vets ever since!

I love all my patients but cats have my heart. I am passionate about feline medicine in particular but love all aspects of GP practice.

In my spare time I like to do a bit of bird watching, hiking, or when the weather is bad, staying in with the company of my three pet mice!
