Be a Hero for Dogs in Need — Join Our Pet Blood Donation Day at Apex Vets

Give the Gift of Life: Join Us at Apex Vets for the Pet Blood Bank
At Apex Vets, we believe in going above and beyond to support the wellbeing of animals—not just our own patients, but pets all across the country. That's why we're proud to partner with the Pet Blood Bank UK, a vital charity that provides life-saving blood to dogs in need across the UK.
We're inviting dog owners in our community to be heroes and join us in this important mission by bringing their pets to our next Pet Blood Bank donation session on Saturday, 8th June here at Apex Vets.
Why Pet Blood Donation Matters
Just like humans, dogs sometimes require blood transfusions due to surgery, injury, illness, or disease. Pet Blood Bank UK works much like the human blood service—collecting, processing, and distributing blood to veterinary practices 24/7. One donation can help save the lives of up to four dogs.
Without willing doggy donors, this crucial service wouldn't exist. By donating, your pet could play a direct role in saving the life of another.
Who Can Donate?
- Not all dogs can become donors, but many can! To be eligible, your dog should:
- Be fit and healthy
- Be between 1 and 8 years old
- Weigh more than 25kg
- Be up to date with vaccinations
- Not have traveled outside the UK
- Have a calm, friendly temperament
If your dog meets these criteria, they could make an ideal blood donor—and a real difference.
What to Expect on Donation Day
Coming to Apex Vets for a Pet Blood Bank session is simple and stress-free. The session takes around 30-40 minutes in total, with the donation itself taking only about 5-10 minutes. Afterward, your dog gets plenty of fuss, rest time, and some well-earned treats and cuddles.
Our trained team and the Pet Blood Bank professionals ensure the experience is as comfortable and positive as possible—for both pets and owners.
If you're interested in having your dog become a donor, we'd love to hear from you. Contact Apex Vets today to learn more or to register for our next Pet Blood Bank session on Saturday, 8th June.
