Exciting News: We Now Offer Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Spays for Dogs!

We are pleased to announce that we now offer laparoscopic (keyhole) spays for dogs at the practice. This advanced, minimally invasive surgical technique is performed by our vets, Claire and Fern, and offers an alternative to a traditional spay for suitable patients.
A laparoscopic spay is performed using a small camera and specialised surgical instruments inserted through two or three tiny incisions, rather than one larger incision. The camera provides a magnified view of the surgical site, allowing the procedure to be carried out with precision while minimising disruption to the surrounding tissues.
Because the surgery is less invasive than a traditional spay, many dogs experience reduced post-operative discomfort and a quicker recovery. Smaller incisions also mean less tissue trauma, a lower risk of wound-related complications, and less surgical scarring.
Some of the key benefits of a laparoscopic spay include:
- Smaller incisions
- Reduced post-operative discomfort
- Less tissue trauma
- A quicker recovery for many dogs
- A lower risk of wound-related complications
We were delighted to welcome Blossom as our very first keyhole spay patient! Following her procedure, she celebrated her birthday just a few days later and recovered well, making her the perfect patient to mark the introduction of this new service.
Although laparoscopic spays offer many advantages, they may not be suitable for every dog. Factors such as your dog's age, size, health and medical history will all be considered when deciding whether this is the most appropriate option. Claire and Fern will be happy to discuss the procedure with you, explain the differences between laparoscopic and traditional spays, and answer any questions you may have.
If you are considering having your dog spayed and would like to learn more about laparoscopic surgery, please contact the practice to arrange a consultation. Our team will be happy to help you decide on the best option for your dog.
